New Mexico is a land full of history and outdoor adventures. As the fifth largest state geographically at 121,585 square miles, it is also one of the least populated states in the nation. Fifteen national parks, nine national forests, and multiple state parks and lakes can be found here. The northern and eastern parts of New Mexico have a colder, alpine climate like the Rocky Mountain Regions while the western and southern areas have a warmer climate. An abundance of historical attractions can be found here, especially in the one-thousand-year-old Taos Pueblo, a still-inhabited community one mile north of Taos. Visit Frijoles Canyon, where a mile-long hike can let you view petroglyphs and masonry walls built into a cliff face. The capital city of Santa Fe was founded in 1610 and is home to a vibrant arts scene and embraces its Native American culture.
