The state boasts 16 national parks and sites and 41 state parks with over 13,000 campsites just to start. Over 200 historic sites and locations also dot the land. Numerous forests and wildlife preserves can also be found in abundance. Summer in Colorado is ideal for hiking, camping, and cooler temperatures as you climb up the majestic peaks. Winter months offer skiing and other outdoor activities. The National Register of Historic Places lists 1,551 sites in the state. More than 7 million visitors come to Colorado national and state parks every year.
